From Idea to Ecommerce: Launching Your First Product Line

Launching a product online in the UAE means getting four things right at the same time: the product, the brand, the store and delivery. Most failed launches get three right and miss one. Here's a practical order to work through them.

1. Validate the product before you order stock

Check that people will buy before you commit to a large order. Look at what competitors charge, read their reviews for common complaints, and test interest with a small batch or pre-orders. Your first order should be big enough to learn from, not big enough to fill a warehouse.

2. Source and sample

Write a clear specification, request samples from two or three suppliers, and compare quality, price and minimum order quantity. If you're importing, work out the landed cost, including freight, customs duty and import VAT, before you set a selling price.

3. Build the brand and packaging

Your name, logo and packaging are what customers remember. Packaging also protects the product in transit, so choose boxes and inserts that survive delivery across the UAE heat and handling. Custom-printed mailers turn every delivery into a small piece of marketing.

4. Build the store

An online store needs:

5. Plan fulfilment

Decide who packs and ships orders, which emirates you deliver to, and how returns work. Write it down on the site: clear delivery and returns policies reduce support messages and build trust.

6. Launch, then improve

Start with a small range, watch which products sell and which pages people leave, and reorder what works. Adding products is easy; clearing unsold stock is not.

Next step: we handle both sides of a launch, sourcing the product and its packaging, and building the ecommerce website. See all procurement and digital services.
